An exciting new era for biotechnology skills training begins at TAFE SA Gilles Plains Campus with a $15 million redevelopment project for the Veterinary and Applied Science Centre (VASC), incorporating six new applied science and biotechnology laboratories designed to meet industry training needs.

The VASC biosciences teamIn 2007 the VASC biosciences team are developing customised and wide ranging short courses for industry, incorporating:

  • good laboratory practise
  • low level bioinformatics
  • molecular biology techniques such as:
    • PCR, including real-time/quantitative PCR
    • gel electrophoresis – agarose and polyacrylamide
    • site-directed mutagenesis
  • topical issues such as genetically manipulated organisms and stem cell technologies.

New facilities at VASCThis quality training is designed to meet high level industry expectations, and ongoing feedback from industry will help to determine future training development.

Short courses can be conducted outside of business hours by highly skilled lecturing staff with industry experience. Customised training with quick response times provide the flexibility to meet individual industry demands.
