Student ID Card

Photo of North Terrace, Adelaide

You will need to use your student ID card for a number of purposes, including:

  • library services
  • computer drop-in centres
  • photocopying or printing
  • computer login
  • travel concessions (see below for details)
  • general student identification
  • some student discounts, such as textbooks or cinema passes.

Check with your campus on the availability of these services.

Your student card will be issued when you enrol and pay your fees. The enrolment staff will enter your personal details and take your photograph. A $5.00 fee will apply.

Travel concession

If you are a full time student, your student ID card entitles you to travel at concession fares on all Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services funded by the Government of South Australia. You must produce your card immediately if requested by an authorised person.

When you purchase a ticket, you should ask for a tertiary concession ticket. Make sure you always carry your student ID card when you are travelling on public transport so that you can verify that you are a TAFE SA student.

A fine may be imposed if you fail to show your student ID card, even if you are a legitimate student. If you use your card in an improper manner, you may be prosecuted.

Transport concession card for low income earners

If you are only studying part time and can't use your student ID card for concession rates on public transport, you can still apply to the Department for Families and Communities for a Transport Concession Card. This card is generally available to those on a low income or on government allowances.
