TAFE SA Disability Support Program

Photo of North Terrace, Adelaide

The TAFE SA Disability Support Program aims to reduce the impact of a disability by focusing on your specific needs and situation to help you to better cope in the training environment. The program also focuses on helping TAFE SA teaching and support staff to accommodate your needs and remove any barriers to your success.

The decision to become involved with the program is entirely up to you. The program is there to support you, but the prime responsibility for your success in your program of study lies with you.

Some of the support services available to you are detailed below.

Counselling and career planning

You can talk to us about your apprehensions, anxieties and concerns before you start your course or while you are studying. We can also help you to plan your further study and career paths, taking into consideration your specific needs and goals.

Enrolment advice and assistance

If you need some help getting started, we can advise you of the various procedures for enrolment.

Advocacy

If you require someone to act as a mediator or referee on matters relating to your studies, we can provide advocacy services.

Tutorial assistance

If you need some help with your studies, we can arrange for tutors for you both on campus and in your home depending on your circumstances.

Special teaching or learning equipment

If you require special equipment, such as computers with voice synthesisers, to help you get through your studies, we can arrange to acquire them for you.

Modifying study environments

If the classroom setting, teaching methods and assessment procedures are not suited to your disability requirements, speak to us. We can arrange for appropriate modifications so you get the best out of your studies.

Assistance with course related transport

If you qualify for the Mobility Allowance or are under exceptional circumstances, we can arrange transport for you to attend classes or tutorials.

The list of services we provide is not limited to those mentioned, and additional requests will be considered based on your course requirements and your particular disability.
