Related Academic Merit

Photo of North Terrace, Adelaide

Related academic merit includes senior secondary school subjects, vocational education and training (VET) competencies or completed tertiary courses. A maximum of 10 points can be scored.

Preferred pathways

Preferred pathways may include specified VET competencies, completed VET certificates and higher education qualifications. A maximum of 10 points can be awarded in related academic merit.

Preferred subjects

Preferred subjects are SACE Stage 1 and SACE Stage 2 subjects that a course finds most relevant.

These SACE subjects (or interstate and overseas equivalents) are listed as individual subjects. Further information on SACE and SACE Stage 1 can be found on the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA) website.

Points are only awarded for listed subjects where a result of Satisfactory Achievement in SACE Stage 1 (or equivalent) or a Subject Achievement score of 10 or more for SACE Stage 2 subjects is recorded. Interstate equivalents can also be scored.

Vocational education and training (VET) units of competence

Completed units of competence to a maximum of 4 points can be scored. Individual units of competence can be in any area and are worth 1 point each.

The SSABSA Record of Achievement lists VET units of competence completed as part of the SACE. The competencies have a 'Z' prefix in the subject code. Results must be recorded as 'Granted' in order to be considered.

Completed VET certificates and higher education qualifications

If you have already completed a VET certificate or higher education qualification in a field of study which is the same as, or related to the course you are applying for (as listed on the selection grid) you will be given preferred pathway points up to a maximum possible score of 10 points. If you have completed an unrelated VET or higher education qualification, points will be awarded to your best advantage.

The 'same area' generally refers to the lower level of a 'packaged' award. 'Related areas' refer to study areas listed as related to the course. If you have completed more than one qualification in the related areas of study, the scores for each qualification are totalled (to the maximum stated).
