Most TAFE SA courses have minimum entry requirements (MER) which you must meet in order to be considered for entry to that course. Where there are more eligible applicants than places available, applicants are ranked to allow selection in merit order using the selection criteria specific to the course. You are also expected to have functional English literacy skills.
It is important that you provide all the information required to support your application. Documentation received after Friday 21 December is not guaranteed to be used in the assessment of your application.
The MER are specific to each course and may include one or more of the following:
- Satisfactory completion of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) (year 12) or interstate or overseas equivalent.
- Successful achievement of SACE Stage 1 (year 11) or equivalent.
- Satisfactory achievement in the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills (TABS) (a series of questions to assess three basic skills - information/motivation, literacy and numeracy).
- Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) results (multiple choice test taken under examination conditions administered by SATAC).
- A completed certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or degree qualification.
- Higher education bridging or tertiary preparation course.
- An audition.
- Assumed English literacy level.
If you do you meet the minimum entry requirements, you are encouraged to undertake the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills.
