Fine scoring discriminators are used when there are more applicants with the same total score than there are places available. Where two applicants have the same score and only one place remains in the course, the applicant with the highest points scored in the first category of the fine scoring discriminators will be offered the place. Where applicants have the same score in the first discriminator listed, further ranking is undertaken on the basis of the subsequent discriminators. The discriminators, in order of importance, are listed at the bottom of each course selection criteria grid.
In the example below, both applicants received the same total score. The fine scoring discriminators list other merit as the first discriminator. Applicant A has a higher score in this category and will therefore be offered the place.
