Studying a TAFE SA horticulture course will prepare you for a career in a variety of areas, including horticulture, wholesale and retail nurseries and garden centres, parks, garden maintenance, local government, sports turf and schools grounds.

Depending on your level of study, you will learn a wide range of skills that will prepare you for work in the industry. These may include:

  • environmental work practices
  • plant establishment
  • recognising plants
  • installing and maintaining irrigation systems
  • pruning
  • treating weeds, pests and diseases
  • basic soil properties
  • renovating grassed areas
  • tending nursery plants
  • laying paving
  • plant nutrition
  • sports turf construction and maintenance
  • specialist pruning, propagation and maintaining of nursery plants
  • designing gardens
  • planning revegetation, turf and propagation
  • chemical use
  • sustainable land use.
