There is currently a national shortage in this industry, and qualified children's workers are in high demand.
Children's services graduates can work with children from babies up to 12 years in a variety of areas, including:
- long day care
- occasional care
- family day care
- home care
- out of school hours care
- vacation care
- community settings, such as hospitals or women's shelters.
As a children's worker, you may perform a wide range of duties, including:
- caring for children's physical needs
- encouraging social interaction
- stimulating children's problem solving and intellectual skills
- helping children to develop their fine motor and gross motor coordination
- identifying children's abilities and interests
- planning and creating an environment and experiences which allows children to develop and enjoy life while feeling safe and secure
- responding to children's needs and changing circumstances.
