Alcohol and Other Drugs

Studying a TAFE SA alcohol and other drugs (AOD) course can lead you to a challenging, rewarding career in an expanding industry. As an AOD worker, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people in the community in partnership with other services, such as mental health and youth work agencies.

AOD qualifications will give you knowledge and skills in:

  • harm minimisation
  • brief interventions
  • motivational interviewing
  • counselling frameworks.

Your study will also be supported by vocational placements so you can gain practical and valuable workplace skills.

Once you have completed your study, you will have the opportunity to move into a range of roles and areas, including:

  • sobering up units
  • stabilisation units
  • outreach services
  • residential services
  • community support
  • personal care
  • telephone counselling
  • program coordination
  • program support
  • gambling services
  • case management.

AOD courses are offered at the Port Pirie and Salisbury campuses.
