Applied Fashion Design and Technology

Studying a TAFE SA applied fashion design and technology course will prepare you for work in the fashion industry in a variety of areas, including men's, women's and children's apparel across sports, formal, tailored, casual and bridal/special occasion market sectors. Once you have graduated, you may have the opportunity to work in a wide range of roles, including:

  • Fashions on the catwalkdesigner
  • product developer
  • fashion marketer
  • pattern maker
  • sample maker
  • machinist
  • computer aided design (CAD) operator
  • production assistant/manager.

Courses range from Certificate II through to Advanced Diploma level. You will learn practical, industry relevant skills, such as:

  • principles of design
  • pattern making principles
  • garment construction
  • fabric and fibre characteristics
  • sourcing materials
  • fashion drawing and trade sketching
  • using electronic fashion design tools
  • history of fashion
  • grading
  • embellishing garments
  • production planning and costing
  • merchandising and marketing
  • developing a fashion range.
